Thursday, April 19  2007 General Membership Meeting

PSBC Board Meeting, 19 april 2007, Hospital Rec Center 6PM  (Minutes taken by Tersh Raybold)

Meeting called to order at 6:08 , Approximately 15 PSBC members in attendance. Board Members present, Len, Jeanne, Steve – along with committee members Tom and Tersh .

Bike Clinic meeting notes approved.

Jersey Order – Len had 15 confirmed as of the start of the meeting, another 4 confirmed from current attendees, order minimum needs to be 25 to go forward.  Proposal was made, seconded, and approved to have the club order the difference to the minimum and keep in stock to sell to new members or those who missed out on the order.  Tersh to check on OMFN sponsorship of jerseys.

President’s Addendum to Minutes – A short sleeve jersey order for 2007 cycling season is confirmed. The order was submitted on Monday April 23 to Voler. Jerseys will arrive in the summer (Voler can not determine exact ship date, details coming). Thank you to all club members who submitted prompt payment. We also have support of OMFN for 2007 thanks to Tersh Raybold.

Membership Update – Steve L – as of today 20 individual and 40 family, 41 active emails cover them all.

Ride update – Len, Jeanne – Wednesday night rides are up and running, same schedule as last year.  Monday night time trials are now active.  Quincy Cranks are now active every Tuesday at 10 in Quincy .  Grant has been leading lots of weekend rides.  Always need more ride leaders.  Sign up sheets are now a must for any club ride per our insurance requirements.  Jeanne will start leading rides at a more leisurely pace every Wednesday in May.  If there is a 5th Wednesday to the month it will be a MTB ride.

Web Site – Tersh – no updates.  Could use new spring 2007 photos to freshen the site.

Newsletter – Jeanne – bi-monthly, more articles needed, thanks to Tom for all of his, next issue will be first week in May.

Trails – Terry Daley left a trails report with Len.

Terry has spoken with Judy Shaber about the club volunteering labor and support for trail efforts, particularly the Lake Davis and Graeagle to Clio trails.

Lake Davis is flagged from campgrounds to Camp 5 road (gravel road on west side of lake off West street ).  Eventual plan to go out to lightning Tree and ultimately around lake.  Trail will be crushed gravel 5-6 ft wide, easy riding.  Judy is looking for grants and funds, some tied into Lake Davis poisoning (paid to offset loss of recreation in area).  They are currently working on environmental approval (expect to be minimal, since most of trail is on old logging rail bed).  Portions will need trail construction with equipment, which will take majority of funds.  She anticipates volunteer labor to clear portions of the trail bed (removal of brush and small trees, hand labor).

The USFS is big on "partnering"...Question for Board is whether PSBC be interested in officially "sponsoring" (maintaining) all or part of this trail?  Work would be expected to be minimal - periodic hand crew work such as tree removal (dead falls) after winter or storm, minor drainage work, etc.  Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship has offered to "co-partner" with us, as this would be our first sponsorship.  Would be an excellent way to get our name out there in the Portola area.

Graeagle to Clio project is a Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship project, they are working with Graeagle Land and Water, have great deal of interest and significant funds committed.  Expect to be partially paved, mostly crushed gravel tread.  They are also talking with USFS about link up to Mills Peak , more of a narrow hiking, biking, equestrian trail.  Likely will be looking for volunteer help on this project as well.

The main area of concern is the volunteer effort for Forest Service Trails, Terry to check their needs versus what we as a club can commit to.  The board and club will discuss how we might participate and offer support.

Other  - Bill Morris had some good news about a new trails club and left information with the board. We will post on our web site and link to theirs when active.

Meeting adjourned at 6:52 and was followed by a special presentation on bicycling in the Far East .

Thursday, February 15,  2007 Board Meeting

PSBC Board Meeting, 15 February 2007, Len and Jeanne’s, 6PM  (Minutes taken by Terry Daley)

Attendees:  Len Fernandes, Jeanne Harper, Tom Frady, Steve Lindberg, Bob Bevers, Kathy and Terry Daley

Meeting called to order by President Len Fernandes at 6PM .  Unfortunately, the Rolling Stones were unable to provide a followup performance at Len’s first meeting as Pres.

Minutes of Christmas Party meeting were discussed.  Motion to accept by Tom, seconded by Bob, approved.

Len –- Club insurance was paid to League of American Bicyclists.  Len shared recent cases where clubs found liable for non-members at events.  Discussion on signing of waivers at club events, was decided to require all participants to sign waiver at every event (whether club member or not).  This would also allow tracking of ride leaders and participants for accolades.  Ride leaders and board members are requested to have extra forms handy at events.  We hope to use a form similar to the Procrastinating Peddlers, and put it on the website for easy printing.

- Cycle California Magazine – Len has PSBC listed.

- Jerseys :  Need 25 to place order, have 17 interested.  Discussion of Cal ( Quincy ) purchasing the balance, Len will check with him.

- Bill Morris suggested listing the area and club with AmericanTowns.com website to attract interest in the area.

- Len provided a letter from the club to support a project to construct a trail to Mills Peak .  Ron Heard is pursuing grant funds from the US Dept of Transportation.

- Will be providing article to Portola Reporter

Steve covered Membership items, discussion on follow up with past members to re-sign.  March 1 is deadline particularly for Spokes advertisements, but we will continue to send emails to “past” members for an undetermined time to encourage membership.  We'll start using updated membership email list on 3/1 and that a "final" renewal blast will be  sent this week.

Tom and Kathy – Events

- Quincy Cranks’ Tuesday rides ( Dame Shirley Plaza ), starting 17 April 10AM.

- Show and Go start 14 March, 1st and 2nd Wednesdays in Portola, 3rd and 4th Wednesdays in Graeagle (Park and Ride), if a 5th Wed, will be a mountain bike ride, most likely Ross Meadows (TBA).

- a slower, “Show and Stroll” (person coming up with best name will be given an award) ride will also take place starting at the 18 April Graeagle ride (Kathy lead), focusing on anyone wanting to ride with others in a less competitive, more supportive environment.

- Calpine Time Trial may be Mondays or Thursdays (will be determined soon).

-  Ride rating system was discussed, decided to use Procrastinating Peddlers’ system.  Len will check with PP on using their system.

- Discussion on how to develop others to be ride leaders for weekend club rides.  New waiver/ride sign up should alleviate liability concerns.

Kathy will coordinate with the Summer Solstice to man an aid station (PSBC).  Free potato chips, Gatorade and ice to any club member arriving at this site.  The Rolling Stones will NOT be there.

Terry – Trails

Discussed Ron Heard’s Mills Peak trail, also Graeagle to Clio Trail.

Bill Morris (former PSBC Pres) had mentioned a USFS project looking at a trail from Portola to Clio on the north side of the Feather River .  The group expressed support for all trail projects (no financial commitment), and would work with the membership to develop volunteers for trail construction/maintenance work as needed.  Terry will use Len’s support letter (revised as appropriate) for these other projects.

Jeanne – Newsletter

Listing of all “local” bicycle events (century rides, club rides and others of interest).  Hope to use to promote carpooling, club members meeting, etc.  Website was discussed, Len will visit with Tersh about updating, etc.

 Action items:

- Len will talk to the Procrastinating Peddlers about using their form, and Tersh about putting form on the website for easy printing by ride leaders.

-Len – check with PPs on using their ride rating system.

-Kathy – get Calpine TT day of week (Dolly).

Meeting Adjourned at 7:19PM

Thanks to all!
